So if you're new to Grime then you must make your first listen available for Skepta. He's the king of Grime, bring his name up in the UK and you'll surely realize how relevant he truly is. Grime is starting to make its way to the states, and I think that"s great! It's rap but it tells a totally different story than that of U.S. style rap, it also sounds a bit different. "It Ain't Safe" off of Skepta's latest album "Konichiwa" is definitely my favorite off his new album, here's why...
The song automatically hits, it's hard and to the point. Skepta explains his dominance in not only the game but in life. The song goes into depth about his hard life and the way he stays on top in the harsh streets of London. The story is really the center of the song and drives the listener to listen over and over, it's just that catchy. The beat only helps the lyrics grow and become bolder than they already are. The lyrics need a heavy beat, something that makes you feel what Skepta is trying to tell you. Thankfully he's accomplished just that, crafting a song that not only sounds good, but feels like everything is simply perfect.
His style is unlike any others, his unique sound is something you must not miss. Go listen to Konihiwa, and if I can recommend one song, it's definitely "It Ain't Safe."
